133 - Saltimbanco!

For my sister's 21t birthday my parents wanted to do something special, so they bought her tickets to Cirque Du Soleil. She took me with her. Yay!

It was easily the most amazing show I have ever seen. It's funny, beautiful, has fantastic music and very talented performers. It was ten times better than I expected it to be, and I had expected it to be awesome.

I don't know how many times I've defended it now, saying it's not just a circus and not just for kids. It's a wonderful display of dance and powerful acrobatics, moving music and extremely appealing sets. I cannot fault it.

When it finished I didn't want to leave. I actually felt like crying a little, like a child who just finished the last ever episode of their favourite show.

I want to go again. Please?!

097 - Dublin Docklands Maritime Festival

SO much fun!

Basically it was a giant market with loads of crafts and food stalls, and a bunch of big ships that looked like pirate ships. What more could you want on a sunny Saturday afternoon? We ate so much that I could barely move and Himself said "uuugh..." more often than actual words. Good times, good times.

The craft stalls were awesome too. Expensive as most festival stalls are, but a lot of the jeweller for example was very pretty. I'm fighting all urges to go get one of the necklaces I eyed up and consequentially fell in love with.

068 - Flight Of The Concords

Why, yes, I did get to see them last night.

Before I went, all I really knew of them was what I caught on youtube or random songs my sister gave me.

They were amazing. Their support act was awesome too. David O'Doherty, an award winning comedian who co-wrote a book called 100 Facts About Pandas, which is just ridiculously silly and hilarious.

I've never been to a show where the crowd and the performers yell abuse at each other so much. It was great! Well, to an extent...

To the guy that wouldn't stop shouting 'BELFAST!'... you're a fucking idiot. (Let it be noted that on his third try the entire crowd yelled at him to shut the fuck up. Made me proud to be Irish.)

To the girl who kept kicking me in the back the whole time... I hope you twist your ankle in your pointy high heels.

Anyway! Flight of the Concords are awesome. That is all.

008 - Far, Far Away

"I'm like a kid at a Star Wars concert... oh, wait...!"

*****

Yesterday my awesome friend Matt took me to see Star Wars, In Concert. I know what you're thinking... and you're right. It really is that nerdy. And you know what? It's GREAT! I WANT TO GO AGAIN!!!

Lights, smoke, lasers, big screens, weird metal stage... what's not to love?

I can't remember seeing the original trilogy, and as far as I recall I've only seen one or two of the new ones, so apart from Episode III and Matt showing me Episode IV earlier in the week, I had no real clue what it was going to be like. As a lover of live performances and music, I was really excited to go. And it really was amazing. The music - and especially the choir - gave me goosebumps. While I wanted to see the other movies before I now really have to. I neeeeed to!

While an appreciation of the movies is probably necessary for most people for pay through the nose for a ticket (we got ours for free, sshh),anyone that loved orchestral music would love the concert. So, girls, if your fella wants to go and you don't want to do anything Star Wars-y, get over yourself and just go. You might actually like it. And you shouldn't deny any Star Wars fan the chance to see it, even if that fan is as half-arsed as I am.
